AstroGrep

Grep is the name of an application used in Unix systems, like Linux, for searching files and folders. The options included in this program are more advanced and more efficient than the ones offered by the Windows search tool. It would be a good idea to have this tool ported into Windows and running it using a graphical interface. This is now possible with the help of AstroGrep, the Windows version of the Linux Grep tool.

The program does not need installing and it's enough to run the executable located inside the downloaded archive. After running AstroGrep, the user will first need to select the search location and then enter the search text. Optionally, he can select the type of files that should be searched. After clicking on the Search button, the desired files will be quickly displayed. AstroGrep works faster than the Windows search tool, even if it doesn't use any indexing services.

Advanced users can take advantage of the complex search options, which offer much more flexibility when looking for files and folders. As such, the user will be able to enter regular expressions when performing a search. What's more, he will be able to set the modification date and time of the desired file. Making this option will produce better and more exact results and will also reduce the time required for the search process.

The search options can be saved to a file and reused later on. This is useful for computers with multiple users, as each one of them will be able to configure the search process in his own way.
